Stitched In Time & Place

Curated by Diana Berek and Marianne Fairbanks, this exhibit of fibers informed media examines our lived experience of today's social, economic and political moment in history. While labor replacing technology has eliminated the necessity for hand work, we see a resurgence of interest in knitting, quilting and fiber based art and craft. What is at the heart of this? How do artists working in fiber media express their understanding of the relationship between fiber, it's history as women's work, as craft, yet also as product and commodity? Includes embroidery, quilt, applique, weaving, fabric construction, multi-media and other work addressing these issues of fiber.

A Performance at Opening by KNIT IT Chicago, a global art performance about caring and compassion. Performed by Inger Lena Gaasemyr, Jennifer Malloy & Susanna Doodeman. To learn more about KNIT IT, please visit www.brakstad.net.
